Sunday Times sues Armstrong

The London Sunday Times is suing Lance Armstrong for up to one million pounds following his life ban and the stripping of his seven Tour de France titles for doping.

The newspaper's chief sports writer David Walsh first raised claims about Armstrong's authenticity when he won his first Tour de France in 1999, and the paper eventually paid Armstrong 300,000 pounds in 2004 after publishing an article saying it was right that questions about Armstrong should be both "posed and answered".

The Sunday Times settled with Armstrong in June 2006, but earlier this year the US Anti-Doping Agency found the Texan had led the "most sophisticated" drug-taking programme in sport.
