Val McEldowney from the New Plymouth bowls club has won the women's singles title at the national open championships in New Plymouth.
McEldowney has rebounded from being down 17-9 against former black Jack Reen Stratford from Birkenhead to win six ends in a row and win out 21-17.
Earlier in the day Shaun Scott, from the North East Valley club in Dunedin, defeated Danny Delaney from Onehunga 21-10 to claim his second men's singles title in three years
