12:20 pm on 7 January 2013

Ten-man Melbourne Heart have staved off a comeback from Brisbane Roar to win 3-2 and move into the top six of the A-League football competition.

The Heart threatened to squander a 3-0 lead in the final quarter of an hour of a controversial match with both teams were given a game-changing controversial decision.

Heart's second goal was clearly offside and swung the momentum of the match the home side's way, while the sending of a Heart striker David Williams' mid way through the second half did the same for the Roar.

It was the first time the Heart have posted back-to-back wins in an inconsistent season to date and allows them to leapfrog the Roar into the top six.

In the night's other match competition leaders the Central Coast Mariners beat fourth placed Western Sydney two nil.

The latest round of results mean the Wellington Phoenix have now second to last in the ten team competition, two points outside the top six.
