Shane Warne has been banned for one match and fined 5 thousand dollars following his altercation with Marlon Samuels in last night's Big Bash cricket match at the MCG.

Angry at Samuels for having obstructed team-mate David Hussey running during the Stars' innings, Warne grabbed at the West Indian's shirt during the Renegades' run chase and the pair exchanged angry words.

Moments later Warne, in an apparently deliberate act, hit Samuels with the ball when fielding near the batsman.

That led Samuels to throw his bat in the air and invite Warne to engage in an extended physical exchange.

Warne was charged with four alleged breaches under Cricket Australia's code of behaviour.

Samuels has been handed two alleged breaches, including participating in "unbecoming behaviour".
