Quade Coooper's rival despises footy-boxer trend

Seasoned fighter Barry Dunnett wants to end the trend of footballers taking to the ring by knocking Australian Quade Cooper out in his pro-boxing debut next month.

Boosted by the support of the boxing fraternity, the unheralded-yet-experienced Dunnett is licking his lips at the chance to make an example of the rugby union international on February 8.

Their bout is on the undercard of another football-playing, part-time boxer Sonny Bill Williams' heavyweight stoush with South African Francois Botha at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Dunnet says the fighting community gets tired of athletes wanting to switch codes and calling themselves professionals and says it takes away money from the boxers who have been doing it all their life.

The Brisbane fighter's background is mainly in Muay Thai boxing.
