A little-known Australian, Christian Kemp, has won the elite men's title at the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships in Auckland.

Taupo veteran Bevan Docherty came out of the water in 10th but finished strongly on the bike and run to come in second, just 34 seconds behind.

Taranaki's Clark Ellice was third, with all three men coming in under four hours in the half Ironman distance.

Australia's Annabel Luxford won the women's race from Caroline Steffen of Switzerland and California's Meridith Kessler.
