Following news of his retirement on Wednesday, the now-former All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen says the timing of his move from Queen's Park Rangers to take over as Toronto FC coach was deliberately kept out of the media.
Nelsen and his London club decided it wasn't in the club's interests for the timing of his departure from the club to be made known, because that could have jeopardised QPR's dealings in the January transfer window.
Nelsen's expected to play two more games for QPR - an FA Cup fourth round match on Sunday, and a premier league match against defending champions Manchester City next Wednesday, both at home.
