Ross Taylor's hit a much-improved half century in his second innings on returning to first class cricket for Central Districts against Canterbury in Napier.

The former Black Caps captain did a lot better than his opening innings of four, knocking 52 before he was bowled by another former international, Andy Ellis.

Central were all out for 320 and Canterbury are cruising towards their target of 332, they're 88 for one at stumps.

Northern Districts thrashed Auckland by an innings and 90 runs on the third day of their match in Hamilton, while Otago did likewise in Dunedin, crushing Wellington by an innings and 240 runs.
