Sir Alex Ferguson faces four-match sideline ban

The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after criticising a match official following his side's Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur.

Ferguson was angered by a linesman's decision not to award a penalty to his side after Wayne Rooney was brought down in the penalty area while United led 1-0.

Tottenham scored an equaliserlast weekend's game in stoppage time, with Ferguson describing the assistant referee's display as shocking, adding he had a history of failing to give United decisions.

Should he be found guilty he could receive a touchline ban of up to four matches.
