Warriors hooker to miss start of NRL season

6:11 pm on 31 January 2013

The Warriors hooker Nathan Friend will miss the start of the club's National Rugby League season needing further shoulder surgery to repair nerve damage.

The Warriors opening match of the season is against Parramatta on March the ninth in Dunedin and club doctor says John Mayhew hopes Friend will be ready to make his first appearance of the new season in April.

Friend had surgery in August after dislocating his right shoulder in a match but a rare complication means he now needs a nerve graft.

The Warriors play the first of three trials games against Gold Coast on Saturday week followed by trials against Penrith and Brisbane.
