Taylor returns to Black Caps

12:40 pm on 3 February 2013

The former New Zealand cricket captain Ross Taylor has returned to the Black Caps, being named in the Twenty20 and one day squads to play England.

Taylor withdrew from the recent tour of South Africa after being sacked as captain by coach Mike Hesson during last year's tour of Sri Lanka.

He met with Hesson this week to try and resolve their differences and Hesson says Taylor is a key part of the Black Caps side.

The only new cap in the two squads is Otago batsman Hamish Rutherford, the son of former New Zealand captain Ken Rutherford.

The Otago bowler bowler Ian Butler returns to the T20 squad, while the Canterbury allround Andrew Ellis is back in both squads, after injury forced him out of the South African tour.

Wellington's Grant Elliot also retains his place in the squads after being called in during the South African as an injury replacement.

Pace bowler Tim Southee was unavailable as he's still recovering from a thumb surgery.

The first match against England is a T20 game in Auckland Monday week.
