NZ women cricketers thrash South Africa

The New Zealand women's cricket team has scored a 150-run victory over South Africa in their opening match at the World Cup in India.

Captain Suzie Bates scored 72 and Sophie Devine smashed 6 sixes in her 145 from 131 balls as the White Ferns made 320 for five.

South Africa were bowled out for 170 with Sian Ruck taking four wickets.

In the other group match Australia beat Pakistan by 91 runs, while defending champions England were beaten by Sri Lanka by one wicket.

New Zealand's next match is against Pakistan.
