The Pakistani cricketers bowled South Africa out for 253 and then finished the first day of the first test in Johannesburg on 6 without loss.

Captain Graeme Smith, who is celebrating his 100th Test as captain and his 32nd birthday, won the toss and decided to bat at the Wanderers but he made just 24 as the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals.

South Africa lost 6 wickets in the last session including 5 to part-time bowlers.

Mohammad Hafeez took 4 for 16.
