Mariners thump deadful Phoenix

11:30 am on 8 February 2013

The Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert didn't hold back in assessing his side's effort in their 5-0 loss to A-League leaders Central Coast in Gosford on Thursday night.

Herbert described his side as hopeless and dreadful after they gave up four second-half goals, including three in the last four minutes.

The gulf between the top side and one of the worst was obvious as the Mariners extended their run of form to seven games unbeaten and moved six points clear at the top, while the loss could result in the Phoenix being bottom of the table by the end of the weekend.

Herbert says it was an embarrassing night for the club.
