The New Zealand Fed Cup women's tennis team has finished third overall at the Asia/Oceania Group II tournament in Kazakhstan.
The team beat the Philippines in the third place playoff in the 11-team competition.
Abigail Guthrie and Emily Fanning both won their singles matches in straight sets to give the New Zealand side an unbeatable 2-0 victory. The doubles was not played.
The team was looking on course for promotion back to Asia/Oceania Group II but was hampered by losing national No.1 Marina Erakovic, who has returned home after a thumb injury when she fell in the tournament hotel.
