The All Whites midfielder Michael McGlinchey has signed a 2-year extension to his contract with A-League club Central Coast Mariners.

The 26-year-old McGlinchey has played 110 games for the club and has helped them to the top of the competition this season.

McGlinchey says he's played some of his best football under Mariners coach Graham Arnold.

Arnold says McGlinchey can play a number of positions, offers plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the team on the field and is also a great clubman off the pitch.

Meanwhile Manchester United has closed in on the English football Premiership title with a 2-nil home win over Everton, thanks to goals from Robin van Persie and the evergreen Ryan Giggs.

The leaders took full advantage of champions Manchester City's shock 3-1 defeat at Southampton yesterday.

The win opens up a 12-point gap at the top over inner city rivals Manchester City.

And Nigeria ended a 19-year wait to regain the African Nations football Cup after beating Burkina Faso 1-nil in the final in Johannesburg.
