The former women's world golf number one Australian Karrie Webb is advising 15-year-old New Zealander Lydia Ko she's ready to turn professional.

Webb, who's 38, will compete with Ko, the world's leading amateur, at the Women's Australian Open at Royal Canberra which gets underway on Thursday.

Webb says Ko's proven she's ready to play professional golf having won three professional tournaments, the latest being the New Zealand Open last week in Christchurch.
