New Zealand Wrestling has accused the sport's international governing body of inaction following a recommendation by the International Olympic Committee's executive board that the sport be dropped from the Olympics.
The president of New Zealand Wrestling Andy Roche says the move has come as a total shock but FILA should have been aware of what was going on.
A part of the ancient Games and contested since the first modern Olympics in 1896, wrestling will now join seven other candidate sports battling for one spot in a revamped programme for 2020.
Roche says while FILA says the recommendation isn't final, he's nervous about the sport's future.
