The Newcastle United and Ivory Coast midfielder Cheick Tiote has been arrested on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences.

Tiote, who only returned to England this month after playing for the Ivorians at the African Nations Cup, reportedly had his luxury $138,000 car seized following his arrest.

The tough tackling Tiote is still expected to play Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv in Newcastle's last-32 Europa League tie at St James's Park on Friday.

Newcastle are struggling in the Premier League in 16th place, four points above the drop zone.
