The referee at the centre of the controversial Sonny Bill Williams-Francois Botha boxing bout in Brisbane last Friday has revealed he was told about an alleged bribe offer before the fight took place.

After losing on points, the South African claimed he was offered $150,000 by Williams' manager Khoder Nasser to throw the contest, but Botha said there was no way in the world he was going to lie down.

Referee Tony Kettlewell says there was no suggestion that he or the judges were culpable of any wrongdoing.

When told about the referee's comments, Nasser questioned why the issue was brought up six days after the fight.
