Bates moves up to No.2 batter in the world

The ICC Women's World Cup 2013 Player of the tournament, Suzie Bates, has jumped five places to claim a career-best number two spot in the latest ICC Women's ODI batting rankings.

The batting table is still topped by India captain Mithali Raj, who has a 39-point lead over Bates.

The latest rankings were released at the conclusion of the World Cup won by Australia, while New Zealand captain Bates top-scored in the tournament with 407 runs from seven games at an average of 67.83.

Bates believes the World Cup has allowed the game to take great strides forward.

Their next major event is the 2014 T20 tournament in Bangladesh .
