Black Sticks beaten by Argentina

The New Zealand women's hockey team has been beaten 4-1 by Olympic silver medallists Argentina in their first of a five test series in Rosario.

A goal late in the second half by Gemma Flynn got the Black Sticks on the scoreboard and was some reward for a competitive first up game by the predominantly young and inexperienced New Zealand side.

Katie Glynn played her 100th international test match today and captained the side.

This Black Sticks team features eight players who played at the 2012 London Olympics, while head coach Mark Hager continues to blood several young athletes in a new cycle now leading up to the Rio Games.

Hager says they created enough opportunities throughout the game which was pleasing, but they just didn't take their chances.

The second test is tomorrow.
