Indian captain says Australian selectors lost first test

Updated at 12:03 pm on 27 February 2013

The Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni added to Australia's misery following their eight-wicket first-test loss in Chennai on Tuesday by claiming the tourists had lost the match at the selection table.

India's spinners claimed 20 Australian wickets on a turning red-clay pitch in Chennai to bowl Michael Clarke's side out twice.

Australia's offspinner Nathan Lyon had a tough initiation to test-match conditions in India with match figures of four for 244, and Dhoni was surprised that they didn't include Xavier Doherty as a back up spinner.

Australia's captain Michael Clarke countered Dhoni's claim, saying it's more a question of performance than selection.
