Black Sticks record rare win over Argentina

11:02 am on 28 February 2013

The New Zealand women's hockey team achieved only their third win over Argentina in 10 years, beating the Olympic Silver medallists 4-1 in their third test of the five-test series.

The coach Mark Hager says the goalkeeper Bianca Russell kept them in the game after being put under pressure early on by the hosts, before the Black Sticks upped the tempo and increased their chances to score.

New Zealand had a 1-0 lead at half-time thanks to Katie Glynn scoring from a penalty corner late in the first half.

The young Black Sticks side continued to attack in the second half, with Anita Punt scoring two goals, and helping set up another which was converted by Krystal Forgesson.

The Black Sticks lost their first game, and drew the second. The fourth match is on Friday.
