The Wollongong Hawks have taken a big step towards the Australian basketball league playoffs with an 88-82 defeat of the visiting Melbourne Tigers.

The win sees the Hawks move up to third above the Tigers.

The New Zealand Breakers lead by three losses from arch-rivals the Perth Wildcats. With four games to go for the back to back champions, the Breakers need just two more wins to seal the minor premiership and home advantage throughout the playoffs.
