Phoenix end winless drought

12:43 pm on 4 March 2013

Relief for Wellington Phoenix football fans yesterday as they ended their long, winless streak in the A-league with a 1-nil win over Melbourne Heart at Forsyth Barr stadium in Dunedin.

The Phoenix attacking approach paid dividends and the scorelines could well have been higher but for hitting the woodwork several times.

Jeremy Brockie scored the goal, his 14th of the season, second only to the Mariners Daniel McBreen.

Interim Phoenix coach Chris Greenacre says putting some enjoyment back into playing was the key to the win victory

While the one-nil win doesn't get them off the bottom of the competition ladder Greenacre says the result is a much needed boost after a trying week following the resignation of former coach Ricki Herbert.

The Phoenix next match is away to competition leaders Western Sydney.
