The four-year-old Cambridge stayer Sangster will start a short-priced favourite in this afternoon's $500,000 Auckland Cup at Ellerslie.
Sangster goes into the 3,200 metre galloping race with a second and two wins at his last three starts, and at $2.30 in early betting he's the only runner in single figures.
The second favourite is the Wellington Cup runner up Annie Higgins, but her trainer Lance Noble says she's untested over the ultimate distance.
It's likely to be a capacity field of 18 for the Cup, which starts at 5.55 this afternoon.
