Sharks win but future still murky

The under siege Cronulla Sharks league club kicked off the new NRL season with an emotional 12-10 win over Gold Coast yesterday, but club officials privately admit they have no idea whether the 14 players embroiled in the drugs scandal tearing apart the club have played their last game for the year.

It appears the offer of a six-month ban for the admission to Australian Sports Anti Doping Agency that they used banned stimulants is still on the table after it was extended last week.

The Sharks dedicated the win to their suspended coach Shane Flanagan who had to watch the game at home, and the team captain Paul Gallen said after the match they had no idea which path the drugs scandal would take.
