The Hurricanes have called in the Southland stalwart Jason Rutledge as an injury cover after 2 of their hookers suffered injuries in their Super Rugby win over the Crusaders on Friday night.
Dane Coles suffered an ankle injury and Motu Matu'u a shoulder injury.
Both are working with the Hurricanes medical team to determine the seriousness of the injuries and their availability to train and play this week.
35-year-old Rutledge isn't currently contracted to any Super Rugby franchise and could play against his former side, the Highlanders this weekend.
Rutledge last played for the Highlanders last year.
Ash Dixon is the third hooker in the Hurricanes.
