Weber aiming for F1 title despite old age

The Australian Formula One driver Mark Weber says he's aiming to be crowned drivers' champion this season despite being the oldest man on the starting grid at this weekend season opening Melbourne grand prix.

The 36-year-old Red Bull driver finished a disappointing sixth last season despite wins at Monaco and Silverstone, and was overshadowed by his younger team-mate Sebastian Vettel, who collected five race wins on the way to a third consecutive title.

Michael Schumacher's retirement has thrust Webber into the role of Formula One's elder statesman, but the hard-bitten Australian says he still has the tricks to keep the vultures away from his place in the competition.

Webber will be joined on the starting grid in Melbourne by fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who will race a second season with the Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso.
