Breakers thump Tigers

The New Zealand Breakers have extended their winning streak to 16 with an emphatic 114-84 victory over the Melbourne Tigers in the ANBL.

It was stalwart Dillon Boucher's last game on the North Shore with the play-offs to be held at Vector Arena.

Three players scored more than 20 points with forward Tom Abercrombie leading all scorers with 24, Alex Pledger made 22 and grabbed 12-rebounds, and Corey Webster hit a career-high 23 points.

The Breakers suffered an early blow, when inspirational forward Mika Vukona crumbled to the floor with an ankle injury. He stayed out of the game with coach Andrej Lemanis saying it appears to just be a sprain.

On Friday, Breakers physiotherapist Anousith Bouaaphone eased fears surrounding Vukona.

Bouaaphone says there is a good chance Vukona will be fine to play their last regular season match at arch-rivals Perth next week, although the medical team will hold off making a final decision until closer to the game.

And as the priority is to have him at full fitness for the playoffs, they won't be taking any risks with his recovery.
