City lose at Everton to all but cede title to United

If the title race in English Premier League football wasn't already over, it probably is now after Everton beat champions Manchester City 2-0 in Liverpool.

Already trailing leaders Manchester United by 12 points, a goal in each half at Goodison Park has City 15 behind United, who won 1-0 at relegation-threatened Reading at Old Trafford, thanks to Wayne Rooney's deflected first-half goal.

Leon Osman's swerving 32nd-minute shot put Everton in front at Goodison Park, and City could not reply even though the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Steven Pienaar was red-carded on the hour mark.

Everton stay sixth after Liverpool lost 3-1 at Southampton, while Arsenal hold onto fifth after a 2-0 win at Swansea City.

The bottom three looks all but set too, with Aston Villa's 3-2 home victory over Queen's Park Rangers opening up a three-point gap above Wigan in 18th after their win over Newcastle on Monday, and seven points above Reading and QPR.

Stoke City played out a scoreless home draw with West Bromwich Albion.
