The New Zealand Breakers will face either Sydney or Melbourne in the Australian basketball league playoffs, after the Kings eliminated the Townsville Crocodiles in Friday night's 81-74 home victory, and the Tigers upset Cairns 66-64 on the road.

That win for the Melbourne side knocks the Taipans out of the race for the fourth and final playoffs spot, but the Tigers now need to see off the Crocodiles at home in Sunday's final regular season game to book their post-season place.

Wollongong host Adelaide Saturday night but the Hawks are assured of third place and a date with Perth in the semi-finals.

The Breakers' 16-game winning streak ended in Perth on Friday night as the Wildcats ended the teams' regular season with a 73-58 home victory.
