Overseas move could be on cards for Shane Smeltz

The new Perth Glory coach Alistair Edwards says there's no way star striker Shane Smeltz will play for an A-League rival next season, but an overseas move could be on the cards for the former All White.

Rumours are building that Smeltz may leave the Glory at the end of the season, one year short of when his contract expires.

Edwards says Smeltz had given him no indication that he wants to leave but if an overseas club came knocking with a big enough offer, Edwards conceded Perth may have little choice but to let him go.

The New Zealander is the A-League's most prolific striker with 73 goals in 121 games.

But the 31-year-old has scored just seven times this season, with injuries and Perth's poor form curtailing his influence.
