New Zealand's 41-strong rowing team made a strong start to the first World Cup Regatta of the year, at the Sydney World Cup today.

The Women's quad progressed through to the final after winning their heat.

Other teams who won their heats were the Women's Lightweight Double Scull crew, the women's Double Scull, and the Men's Coxless Four.

The men's Quadruple Scull of Nathan Cohen, Hayden Cohen, Nathan Flannery and Fergus Fauvel were second in their heat to Great Britain.

The New Zealand combination is a relatively young crew and will be looking to go one better on Sunday for the final.
