Van Dalen and Carson win 1500 metres titles

Lucy Van Dalen and Hamish Carson won the prestigious 1500 metres titles on the final day of the New Zealand Track & Field Championships at Mt Smart in Auckland.

London Olympian Van Dalen won in four minutes 16.80 seconds from Waikato's 3000 metres national champion Camille Buscomb.

Carson had to wait for the final 50 metres to get past Canterbury's Hayden McLaren, in a time of three minutes 46.26 seconds.

Stuart Farquhar, ninth-placegetter from the London Olympic Games, had a best throw of 80.17 metres in the Javelin to win his 13th New Zealand senior title.

Joseph Millar retained his sprint double, taking out the senior 200 metres title in 21.38 seconds.

Portia Bing was the winner of the women's 200 metres final in 24.59 seconds, Fiona Morrison filled second place and New Zealand hockey player Anita Punt came third.

Mariah Ririnui repeated her victory from day one in the 100 metres with a good win in the long jump, clearing 6.01 metres for a 10-centimetre personal best.
