The former Black Cap James Marshall is retiring from all forms of cricket following a 16-year representative career.

The captain of the Northern Knights' Ford Trophy squad for the past two seasons and previously captain in all three formats made his first-class debut for the Knights as a Northland teenager in the 1997/98 season.

The right-hand batsman would go on to break the side's most prestigious batting and appearance records.

The 34 year old represented the Black Caps from 2005 to 2008, playing seven Tests, 10 One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.
