Rangers wrap up third division title

10:24 am on 31 March 2013

Rangers have clinched the Third Division title to complete the first part of their long journey back to the top of Scottish football.

The fallen Glasgow giants were held to a drab goalless draw away at Montrose, but Queen's Park's 1-0 defeat to Elgin City later in the day allowed Rangers to clinch the championship.

Second-placed Queen's Park are now 22 points behind Rangers with seven matches left to play.

It is the first step on the journey to redemption for Ally McCoist's side, who were forced to start life in the country's bottom tier after financial difficulties led to the liquidation of the old company last summer.

It is a first Third Division title for Rangers, who had been an ever-present in the top division of Scottish football until this season.

However, with talks still ongoing about the future set-up of the game in Scotland, it is unclear what division the Ibrox club will start life in next season.
