The New Zealand basketballer Steven Adams has made himself available for the NBA draft, leaving the University of Pittsburgh after just one season.

Adams, who's the younger brother of double Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams, is expected to be picked up in the first round of the draft despite struggling in his first season of college basketball.

Only two other New Zealand basketballers have played in the NBA.

Sean Marks who had an 11-year career in the competition and won an NBA championship in 2005 with the San Antonio Spurs and Kirk Penny who had short stints with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat.
