The New Zealand motor racing driver Fabian Coulthard has upstaged the defending V8 Supercar champion and pole sitter Jamie Whincup, to steal the opening race of the Tasmanian round.
Coulthard produced a bold passing move on Whincup two laps into the second 25-lap sprint to claim the lead and go on to clinch his first official race win at Symmons Plains Raceway.
The Holden racer then managed to increase his lead in keeping the four-times champion at bay and claim race one of the second round of the series.
Red Bull had sharply contrasting fortunes with Whincup at least managing to claim second spot ahead of the Ford of Mark Winterbottom.
