Van Dyk escapes censure over umpiring comments

The Silver Ferns shooter Irene van Dyk has escaped with only a general warning after criticising the umpires following the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic's loss to the Perth based West Coast Fever in the trans-Tasman netball competition recently.

Van Dyk and several other players and coaches have criticised the inconsistency of umpiring with van Dyk saying her defensive markers in the weekend's game were over-physical and the umpires allowed them to get away with murder.

The trans-Tasman competition manager Andy Crook says such comments are contrary to the spirit of the competition but aren't a breach of the code of conduct.

Crook says they have sent a general warning to all teams to be careful about their comments and to remind them of the proper channels of making a complaint.
