McCullum sues Parker

5:39 pm on 19 April 2013

The New Zealand cricket captain Brendon McCullum is suing the former international skipper John Parker for defamation.

McCullum's lawyers say they'll file defamation proceedings in the High Court at Hamilton early next week over a document they allege makes false and highly damaging claims about McCullum.

McCullum says in a statement he has no option but to take legal action, as Parker's paper makes some very serious attacks on his integrity, honesty and ethics.

McCullum, who's currently playing in the Indian Premier League with the Kolkata Knight Riders, says he's tried to resolve these issues with Parker but hasn't been able to, so he's left with no choice but to defend himself and his reputation through the courts.

Hesson has issued a statement saying he has similar concerns over the comments made by Parker about him and he's also taking legal advice.

Parker couldn't be contacted for comment.
