The Chiefs have been beaten 25-20 by the New South Wales Waratahs in their Super Rugby clash in Sydney.
The Chiefs started slowly and trailed 15-0 at the break, but came storming home to snatch a two-point lead when big prop Ben Tameifuna barged over in the 73rd minute.
However the Waratahs grabbed the winning try three minutes from time to upset the defending champions.
The Chiefs, who were beaten by Queensland last weekend, drop to second in the New Zealand conference behind the Blues.
