Hurricanes hooker hoodoo has Motu'u grounded

6:02 am on 29 April 2013

The Hurricanes flew out to South Africa for their two-week tour of the Republic with only one specialist hooker.

Ash Dixon's their only fit rake after Motu Matu'u fractured his right forearm in the two-point loss to the Stormers on Friday night in Palmerston North.

The All Black hooker Dane Coles is still out with a fractured eye socket.

Matu'u's out for six to eight weeks and isn't travelling - though wing Julian Savea is on the plane despite missing the 18-16 defeat after pulling out of the team following his assault charge.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett says while prop Reg Goodes could be converted to the No.2 jersey a new hooker will be flown into the Republic next week.

He says he has players in mind for the assigment but can't reveal their names as he needs to fully inspect the player pool with the oversight of the Rugby Union.
