NZ-born Cowboys league player Elisala dies

6:43 am on 30 April 2013

A promising North Queensland rugby league player, the New Zealand-born Alex Elisala, has died after his life support was switched off.

The 20-year-old full-time member of the Cowboys 2013 NRL squad was admitted to Mackay Base Hospital early on Sunday morning.

Mackay police would not comment on the circumstances leading up to Elisala's hospitalisation.

Elisala made his test debut for Samoa against Tonga earlier this month in Sydney, and hours before being admitted to hospital around 7am Sunday, he had scored a try for the Mackay Cutters in their 22-22 Queensland Cup draw with Tweed Heads on Saturday afternoon.
