The Kiwis rugby league star Benji Marshall is reported to be close to extending his contract with NRL club the Wests Tigers, in one of the biggest deals in the sport.

The Sydney Morning Herald says the five-eighth could this week sign an extension to his current contract, which ends after next season, keeping him at the Tigers until the end of 2017.

The deal is reported to be worth $4.8 million.

The 28-year-old has played his entire career at the Tigers.
