Black Caps determined to play spoiling role in Ashes summer

The New Zealand cricket coach Mike Hesson has warned England that his side intend playing an early-season spoiler's role when the two-test series begins later this month.

In an English summer that'll be dominated by the Ashes, the Black Caps' arrival this week has been hardly noticed.

But Hesson is determined not to let his side become the entree to the arrival of the Australians.

New Zealand's first match is a three day three-day game against Derbyshire starting on Saturday.

Skipper Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor are due to arrive in time for the final warm-up contest against the England Lions next week, with the first test at Lord's starting in a fortnight.
