Kiwi league prop played on with broken neck

5:52 am on 3 May 2013

It's been revealed the Kiwis league prop Sam McKendry played on for 14 minutes after breaking his neck during Penrith's National Rugby League match against Parramatta.

McKendry fractured a vertebrae 16 minutes into the match and left the field soon after to receive medical attention, but he returned to play 13 minutes in the second half, believing he'd suffered only a minor shoulder injury.

The 23-year-old Kiwi international will see a specialist tomorrow, and it's thought at best he'll be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

In the meantime he doesn't need a neck brace.
