For the first time three New Zealanders are riding on the same team on a grand tour cycling event.

Hayden Roulston, George Bennett and Jesse Sergeant are part of the RadioShack Leopard Trek team in cycling's Giro d'Italia.

Roulston says New Zealand's reputation on the road cycling circuit is growing as more riders break into the international circuit.

But the Olympic silver medalist says don't expect to see any of the New Zealanders on the podium.

He says none of them are the team's lead riders although they'll get opportunites to impress during the 3500 kilometre race.

The Giro d'Italia runs for three weeks, with 21 stages starting with a criterium around the streets of Naples on Saturday.
