Ioane off to France

The Wallabies winger Digby Ioane is heading to France after the Super Rugby season, and it appears his international career will end then too.

Ioane has signed a massive two-year contract with French glamour club Stade Francais worth $3 million, but the deal will severely endanger his chances of playing in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

It's unclear whether Ioane's move will affect his chances of playing against the Lions next month, but it's clear the 27-year-old couldn't reconcile his difficult contract negotiations with the Queensland Reds.

Ioane is regarded among the best wingers in the game and his loss is a major blow to both the Wallabies and the Reds.

One of the country's highest-paid rugby players, earning a reported $965,000 per season, the 34-test flyer had another year to run on his Reds contract but his ARU deal expired at the end of 2013.

Ioane has represented Queensland on 63 occasions across six seasons since debuting against the Highlanders in 2008, highlighted by the Reds' memorable Super Rugby title triumph in 2011.
